NO DEVELOPMENT FEE
Nobody’s charging you R10,000 to build it.
Ask around for a WhatsApp ordering system and the usual answer is a development quote — commonly around R10,000 — to build yours from scratch. Then you wait, then you test, then you pay again whenever something needs changing.
FoodChat is already built and already running. Your R2,400 setup covers configuring it for your store: menu loaded with photos and prices, your choices and upsells, your PayFast account connected, your driver rules and commission rate, your loyalty settings — plus the WhatsApp Business and PayFast approvals handled on your behalf. You’re usually live in about ten days.
Changes afterwards aren’t a development ticket either. Your menu and prices live in a spreadsheet you edit yourself, and updates go live in minutes.

WHAT YOU’RE ACTUALLY BUYING
A customer list you own — and can reach for R1.50.
The monthly fee buys you a system. What it builds you is a database. Every order — delivery, collection, walk-in with a QR scan — adds a real customer with a name, a number, an order history and an opt-in. After a year of trading that’s hundreds of people who have already bought from you and already said yes to hearing from you.
That list is the difference between advertising and marketing. A radio spot or a boosted post goes to strangers and hopes. A broadcast goes to people who know your food, have your address in their phone, and are one tap from ordering again.
And it costs about R1.50 a message. Send tonight’s special to 300 regulars for around R450. If even thirty of them order at an average of R180, that’s R5,400 in the till from a R450 spend — and you’ll know exactly which thirty, because they’re on your list, not somebody else’s platform. Illustrative example; results vary.
